So sorry for the late update, it would have been sooner but my disk that held the maps decided to get lost and just found it again late today.
We finally get to see a well and fairly detailed map of Devia. I might post the whole thing later in another part of the site so you can see it better.
This comic looks cool and the setting/outfits are interesting.
The main problem I have is I feel like I want someone to just stop and explain what is going on with this place!
The good guys seem to be British (I’ll just accept that they are all animals) but one of them sounded French and but they seem to represent a place called the Republic (which is weird for the British!)
Their enemy is called the Empire (I have no idea who the Empire are. Are they a group of real countries like the republic? Or are they natives to this part of the world?)
If the characters or a narrator isn’t going to lay all this out, could there be an info page that explains it all? Just a broad over view of what the situation is in this world.
There are referances in authors notes to this being based on some sort of roleplaying game, which just makes me feel even more like I am missing out on half of what is going on.
I cant get invested in the characters political tensions and peace treaties unless there is some way I can find out what the countries involved actually are!
Sorry this comment came out a bit negative, the comic seems fun, this is just the one big gripe that holds it back for me.
1. theres an explaination page on the purchased book, 2. more things will be explained as the comic progresses, as what happens with most. Sit back and enjoy for a while more and i promise things will be explained.
Also, the good guys are not all british, they are allied forces of the world powers, french, british, and americans for now. The jaguar is an american, the dog is french. Devia is a fictional republlic in the carribean fighting against “The Empire” which is supposed to be ambiguous, it is not representative of any existing nation past or present, merely an Empire of Devia. I included a more detailed description in the book because it was an incentive to buy.
Also, its not a ‘game’ its merly a forum which you can find through the link above which will have alot more information. I ask you be patient, theres lot to tell and expositon will come when it fits, right now we’re still very much in the “prolouge”

My confusion over their nationality stems from the fact that because the comic is black and white, they all look to be wearing the same colour, but thats pretty unavoidable really. At least now I know!
The Empire must be pretty big if the combined force of three of the biggest countries, plus who ever the natives to the republic are, are afraid to start a war with these guys!
If I had that many countries behind me I’d tell the kangeroo guy to stick it in his ear and surrender before we cannon his country into next week, so I guess they know something I dont.
Other thoughts-
I’m glad the British are involved in a not-evil capacity, that makes a nice change.
You should throw in some Germans in the goodie alliance, really for no other reason then Germans are always bad guys in everything, so it would be good to have them being good guys for once.
Having an evil empire that is not an analogy to any real world nation is also probably a good idea. No one gets offended when you kill the evil Empire!
I’m also curious now as to why so many countries are pictching in to help the republic out, especially as it means putting asside all their rivalries with each other.
I’ll try to be patient for answers, but I’m mostly like a kid a Christmas with these types of things!
I’m glad Ive cleared some things up, and renewed your interest, I like to keep readers when I can. As for “national backing” Vyse actually doesnt have much. He’s an outcast of the british forces, his only choices were “go to this obscure little island and try not to loose much of the forces we give you or be dishonourably discharged” the obvious choice….. Jones (the american) is a bit similar but again i’d be giving away too much. here nor there, everything will be explained eventually. Thank you for your patience. (also the storylines for devia have been planned out well in advance and while there are prussians (the germans of the time) present on both sides, the empire’s languages are Prussian, (german) French and English. to try and keep it balanced.
